The world's first playable comedy show makes its Edinburgh debut
Karate Man – A Live-Action Video Game plays one night at Bedlam Theatre at 00:30 on Friday 14 August 2026.
Following award-winning runs in Australia and an international debut in London, Karate Man – A Live-Action Video Game arrives at the Edinburgh Fringe for one night only, as part of the Bedlam Late lineup.
Karate Man – A Live-Action Video Game is a chaotic choose-your-own-adventure where the audience literally plays the show like a video game.
The audience is given a Bluetooth gaming controller that, when used, triggers sound cues commanding the on-stage actor to PUNCH, JUMP, KICK etc.
Players take turns controlling Karate Man (co-director Bruno Dubosarsky) and work together to get their sweaty hero to a happy ending. They choose where Karate Man goes, what he does, who he meets... and face the consequences.
In 198X, Karate Man defeated the nefarious Ross Roundkick (co-director Jacob Henegan) and restored peace to Karatetown. Decades pass and Karatetown's champion must face his greatest challenge yet: ordinary life.
The show started as a sketch in Sydney, Australia in 2022, and has expanded to an internationally-touring alternative comedy darling. Karate Man is a full-length narrative, with over 20 optional characters brought to life by aussie comedians Maddie Houlbrook-Walk, Alexander Richmond, and Alexandra Smith.
